BC Hydro phasing out two natural gas plants to focus on hydroelectricity

Two BC Hydro plants are being phased out as the company turns its focus toward hydroelectricity.

The plants had relied on natural gas to generate power. The plants are located on Vancouver Island and northeast British Columbia.

More than 95 per cent of the province’s power comes from renewable energy sources, with hydroelectricity as the leader.

BC Hydro wishes to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and help meet government-led climate goals.
